Dark Pattern

De-federate
The act of decentralized sites blocking other sites that they otherwise can interoperate well with, often to avoid unwanted behavior or poor moderation.

Edge-dominant software
Software that by itself has no content, and instead relies on users to provide content that can then be served to others. Platforms for users to share content with others.
Enshittification

Federate
Joining two systems together such that their users can see and interact with each other, often through a protocol that both systems' software can speak.

Instance
A specific server/community that you can join, often running a commonly used piece of software.

Protocol
An agreed-upon language that software can speak, in order to communicate with other software and in turn exchange information.

Vanity domain
A website name or address that is picked on purpose due to its apparent vanity in some social circles, often due to it being funny to the target audience.
